From the company’s base in Silverdale, North Auckland, owner Giovanni Spadotto leads a team of passionate, highly skilled waterproofing technicians – two operations managers, one in roofing, the other for tanking projects, and nine applicators. Giovanni has been at the helm of the company since establishing it nearly four years ago, but he carries 17 years’ trade experience in the industry, including five years as national field trainer for Allco Waterproofing. Having decided, after years of working for others, he should finally follow his passion, Giovanni and wife Neota established Sub Zero Waterproofing, and haven’t looked back. India Josephs is the company’s marketing person, and she says there are plenty of good reasons why Sub Zero has gained the reputation it has, in this competitive sector. “There isn’t a thing about waterproofing applications that Giovanni doesn’t know innately. Waterproofing standards and regulations governing who can apply these technologies have matured over the years. “These days, you have to carry credentials and supplier certifications to be an approved applicator,” India says. During the winter months, demand for roofing and tanking work typically increases as rain reveals new leaks. While this season is usually a quieter time for many trades, it’s a busy period for waterproofers, as wet weather often exposes issues that remain hidden during the drier months. “I think its been a bit of a surprise for Giovanni as to how well the market has responded to our service and product offerings,” India says. “He didn’t imagine the business would be at the size it is now after only three-plus years, so that really says something about our standards, professionalism and quality of what we deliver on every project.” Sub Zero Waterproofing’s values are summed up as C.O.R.E: Connections, Outstanding standards, Results through solutions, and all-round Excellence, striving for continuous improvement and industry leadership. And there’s plenty of projects on the go at the moment, keeping the teams busy. “We’re involved in supplying 6000sqm-plus of Markham and Allco tanking installation at the Ponsonby Pompallier rebuild project, which will see this grand old building converted into high-end apartments.” As one of the few companies offering comprehensive waterproofing solutions – from tanking to roof and deck membranes, including warm, cold, and green roofs – Sub Zero Waterproofing is in high demand.
