Founded by Roy and Pam Browne as Roy Browne Car Painters in 1976, the business began with just four staff and a single focus on car painting and panel beating. Today, under the ownership of their son, Kris Browne, and business partner Glenn Tervit, the company employs over 80 skilled technicians operating across three locations in Te Awamutu, Hamilton and Auckland. Insurance-approved repairers across top brands, Fleet Image offers an extensive range of services, including panel beating, insurance crash repairs, fibreglass and plastic welding, industrial sandblasting and specialist coatings for cars, utes and vans through to 400-tonne cranes, buses, truck and trailers, and structural steel finishing for industry and agriculture. “We’ve come a long way in 50 years, but we’ve always stuck to our fundamentals,” says Kris. “Do great work, treat people right, and keep adapting and diversifying.” This adaptability has led to Fleet Image partnering with New Zealand-owned engineering and transport manufacturers, such as PFS Engineering of Hamilton, and Transport Trailers, to provide sandblasting and specialist coating services for new commercial builds and repair refinishes. “We are coating specialists who sandblast, not sandblasters that paint,” says Kris. “A lot of our warranty work is for major transport manufacturers like Mitsubishi Trucks and Caterpillar. Our coating finishes are second to none. It’s the finish that gets seen first, so whether its protection for steel structures or paint finishes for cranes and truck cabs, we can do it to the highest global standards.” The company achieved ISO 9001certification in 2023, reflecting its commitment to international quality standards. In 2024, Fleet Image entered a new era of innovation by partnering with Canadian-owned Body-Liner, bringing the world’s toughest industrial coating to New Zealand. The product, known for its exceptional chemical resistance and strength, is already being applied to commercial vehicles, Fleet Image’s own work utes, industrial equipment and aluminium boats. “Body-Liner is a game-changing product,” says Kris. “Its chemical resistance and strength makes it the world’s toughest paint. It stays shiny without peeling or lifting.” Fleet Image is also an approved repairer for all major insurance companies and offers the Collision Repair Association guarantee of workmanship on all structural repairs. It meets all warrantable standards required by large commercial fleets. The business is also Truck Rentals Group approved, enabling it to service New Zealand’s largest rental truck fleet with over 4000 vehicles nationwide. The Hamilton branch leads its commercial operations, specialising in industrial and heavy equipment painting. It operates across four fully equipped workshops featuring truck booths, bake ovens, and a dedicated sandblasting shed. The Auckland branch specialises in truck collision repairs, sandblasting, and refinishing, while the Te Awamutu branch handles light motor vehicle and truck collision repairs, refurbishments, and repainting on helicopters and new trucks.
