Managing director Aaron Webb says the team’s work is defined by its capability to take on complex builds and deliver exceptional results. “We focus on the high-end market,” he says. “Our goal is to deliver homes that not only look stunning, but are built with the future in mind and perform well in the coastal environment. We know this area, we know the sand, we know where the water tables are, and that gives our clients a real advantage.” A standout project completed recently in Whangamatā is a three-level, 280sqm home perched on a compact site overlooking the beach. Designed to maximise the spectacular views, the home was carefully planned and engineered to fit the site, while incorporating an impressive level of detail and future-proofing. Built to LifeMark standards, the house has been designed for wheelchair access, with wider hallways, thoughtfully positioned light switches and power outlets, and grab rails already in place. Though the owners don’t currently require these features, the design ensures they can age in place comfortably. The home also includes a platform lift that spans all three levels. Far from being just a practical addition, the lift doubles as a striking design feature. Its shaft houses a hand-painted mural suspended on canvas, with windows bringing in natural light to showcase the artwork across the full height of the structure. Other luxury touches include an expansive cantilevered corner on the top level, opening seamlessly to sweeping ocean views. The space features cedar ceilings, exposed steel rafters, and a stone finish that creates a dramatic yet warm atmosphere. Outdoor living is equally impressive, with a custom-designed outdoor kitchen, gas fire, and a large swim spa integrated into the deck. The spa is concealed by a motorised deck lid that blends seamlessly into the surrounding timber. The interior also showcases Webb Design and Build’s ability to work with a diverse range of materials and finishes. The home features Ambitec micro-cement walls, honed concrete blockwork at the lower level, XLam flooring, and custom-poured concrete stairs. Inside, a luxurious marble bath is set beneath switchable glass windows that can transform from clear to frosted at the push of a button. “This was a technical build, and there was a lot of learning with different systems like XLam flooring and concrete structures,” Aaron says. “We worked closely with the designer to make sure every detail was executed to the highest standard.” The company is now three-quarters of the way through another Whangamatā build, this one with a softer, more sculptural design. “It’s not as square and industrial as the last one, with sloping roofs, different angles, and “Our goal is to deliver homes that not only look stunning, but are built with the future in mind and perform well in the coastal environment. We know this area, we know the sand, we know where the water tables are, and that gives our clients a real advantage.” charred timber cladding. The materials are very refined, and it’s going to be another really special home.” With each project, Webb Design and Build continues to demonstrate why it is one of the Coromandel’s most capable and quality-driven residential builders. “We pride ourselves on producing exceptional work that suits this environment,” Aaron says. “That combination of craftsmanship, technical know-how, and local knowledge is what sets us apart.” Proud to supply Webb Design & Build with all their structural steel requirements We supply the Coromandel Peninsula 021 656 877 | office@coastalengineering.co.nz | 315 Casement Road, Whangamata Providers of scaffolding & building construction services to Whangamata, Coromandel & Thames Valley.
