Stryde Projects T T Sue Russell BUILDING Stryde Projects is an Auckland-based construction company that works across an array of sectors, bringing planning, design and build, project management and construction capabilities together seamlessly. The company delivers projects across the greater Auckland and Northland regions. Specialising in medium-scaled commercial, education, multi-unit resident and community buildings, the offering also includes fit-out and refurbishment expertise. Director, Kelvin Cartwright, is a skilled commercial manager bringing a wealth of experience to the table. His competencies include construction, value engineering and cost management and he leads a team dedicated to delivering projects that exceed client expectations. “Its this history of melding our collective skills and experiences to bring real value outcomes to clients that our reputation in the industry is based on,” Kelvin says. And just as important, the expertise is delivered in a down-to-earth and easily accessible way, ensuring clients understand throughout a project’s life, exactly where the build is at. Kelvin says, like many other construction companies market conditions have been challenging these past couple of years. “We have to fight for every job but the fact that we haven’t put all our eggs in one basket and can provide an array of capabilities around a project, gives us the flexibility to respond to market challenges and seize opportunities as these present. “Having long-standing relationships has also been key to securing repeat work with valued clients.” An example of this is the work Stryde Projects takes on for the Ministry of Education. Over the years these have shifted from a focus on new builds to renovation, rejuvenation and remediation projects. “We’re one of four main contractors for the Ministry delivering the Weathertightness programme here in Auckland. There are a lot of schools that have weather-tightness challenges. There are also other projects given rollgrowth demands on existing school classrooms and facilities. We also work for the Catholic Diocese with some of their school builds or upgrades.” Stryde Projects undertook a significant new build for May Road Primary School in Auckland; a school projected to experience significant roll growth. The project finished in August last year and involved the construction of a three storey 15 classroom new building, designed to meet roll growth expectations. Along with the new teaching block, Stryde also constructed a new car-parking space toward the lower edge of the school playing field. Two smaller out-buildings, one a pump room, the other an outdoor creative space for students, were also built. Success of the build was bolstered by excellent inputs delivered by sub-contractors, including Atlantic Enginnering, who did amazing work with the building’s portals. Half way through the May Road School project Stryde Projects was engaged to also construct two, brand new two-storey 16 classroom block, complete with a lift, toilets, storage areas, learning spaces, with balconies and stairs to a new open plan design at Owairaka Primary School. In the heart of the classroom block was a tree-like structure which was incorporated to represent the “Old Grandmother” tree which had to be removed to allow the development to go ahead. “The tree was a favourite for the school pupils so it was nice to have the remembrance of this tree in the new school block. Further works included relocating two existing classroom blocks and the Nga Ringa Building within the school grounds,” Kelvin says. Both the May Road School and Owairaka Primary School were great successes which came about by having a collaborative approach with all the design consultants, lead project manager firms and Ministry Education’s delivery manager Ridwaan Khan. Kelvin says Stryde Projects’ success comes down to some very simple, yet important factors. “We’re honest, we deliver something that is good and we do what we say we are going to do. No-one likes surprises, so our communication systems are highly tuned.” And another fact Kelvin is very proud of, is that during the COVID-19 years, and the subsequent upheaval it wrought to the construction sector, Stryde Projects did not lay anyone off. “Our commitment to our team is something that’s really important to us and one of our core values.” Sitting alongside Stryde Projects are sister companies/divisions Stryde Maintenance and Stryde Landscaping. “Having the breadth of capabilities we do, means we’re able to work across a diverse array of project types and sectors at any given time and this has meant we’ve been able to sustain a good level of work during some pretty testing times.” Marine Food & Packaging Architecture Extensive experience in Custom Sheetmetal Fabrication Steel Fabrication Stainless & Aluminium 09 266 8774 estimator@dssf.co.nz 28 Westbrook Ave, Takanini, Auckland, 2105 dssf.co.nz ENTURE PLUMBING PLUMBING GASFITTING DRAINLAYING Venture Plumbing Ltd, PO Box 181, Clevedon, Auckland 2248 admin@ventureplumbing.co.nz | 022 307 5639 | 0800 32 10 32 | www.ventureplumbing.co.nz We are friendly and reliable, providing service to the wider Auckland area.
