Set to impress at Highgate Highgate Ridge in Māori Hill, is a boutique collection of six luxury townhouses designed to appeal to homeowners, downsizers, investors, professionals, and anyone seeking low-maintenance living close to the city centre. T T Karen Phelps MJW Homes combines a hands-on approach with a focus on quality residential construction across Dunedin, led by builder-turned-developer Matt Wootton. The company’s latest project, Highgate Ridge in Māori Hill, is a boutique collection of six luxury townhouses designed to appeal to homeowners, downsizers, investors, professionals, and anyone seeking low-maintenance living close to the city centre. Matt says the location was central to the project’s appeal. Perched above Dunedin in one of the city’s most sought-after suburbs, the development combines contemporary architecture with expansive city views, generous floorplans and carefully selected finishes. The development includes one two-bedroom townhouse, four three-bedroom homes and one four-bedroom residence. “Māori Hill has always been one of Dunedin’s most desirable suburbs because it offers a balance of tranquillity and convenience. You’re close to great schools, cafés, parks and the CBD and still have a real neighbourhood feel,” says Matt. “Highgate Ridge is within easy reach of Ross Creek Reservoir, Balmacewen Golf Course, Mercy Hospital and the University of Otago, with several of the city’s leading schools nearby.” Designed to stand apart from traditional townhouse developments, the homes are notably larger than many comparable properties entering the market. “People still want space, comfort and quality, even when they are downsizing. We’ve designed these homes to feel spacious and practical but still be easy-care and low-maintenance,” says Matt. The homes feature open-plan living spaces, bespoke lighting, fully tiled bathrooms and contemporary kitchens with premium finishes. Exterior detailing includes crisp architectural lines, varied roof profiles and landscaped outdoor areas intended to complement the character of Māori Hill. Matt says the project reflects growing demand for high-quality townhouses that provide modern living without the upkeep of larger family homes. “Our developments are about more than simply building houses. We want to create spaces where people can thrive and enjoy a warm, comfortable lifestyle for years to come,” says Matt. With more than 20 years in the building industry, Matt says his transition from builder to developer has allowed him to take greater ownership of every stage of the process. “After spending two decades building homes and managing projects across New Zealand and Australia, I wanted to focus on creating developments that reflected my own standards and vision,” he says. Born and raised in Dunedin, Matt completed his apprenticeship locally before progressing through the construction industry to oversee major projects around Australasia. That experience, he says, has shaped the values behind MJW Homes. “Being hands-on across the whole development is really important to me. A lot of pride and care goes into every project, and I work closely with a strong team of subcontractors and consultants to make sure the finished product is something people genuinely love living in,” says Matt.
