| 95 BUILDING Lagan Construction Since founding Lagan Construction seven years ago, Matt Lagan has remained deeply committed to delivering quality craftsmanship, and. with over 20 years of hands-on building experience, he continues to lead from the front, still on the tools and as passionate about construction as the day he began his career. Matt’s journey started at just 18 years old when he began his apprenticeship in Christchurch. It was there he learned not only how to build, but how to do it right, a philosophy that continues to shape every project Lagan Construction takes on. Lagan Construction launched with a small team, taking on a 10-unit development in Upper Riccarton as their first major contract. The project was delivered on time, on budget, and without a single call back. While the outcome was a success, Matt realised his true passion lay in bespoke residential builds, and that’s where Lagan Construction has firmly planted its roots. Each year Lagan Construction aims to complete one or two of their own spec builds alongside custom projects for clients. With multiple builds now under his belt, Matt takes a hands-on role in guiding clients through the early design stages, often collaborating before plans are even drawn. “A lot of our clients have seen what we’ve built and love the look and materials we use: stone, cedar, plaster. We sit down and figure out the layout, number of bedrooms, garage size, those important fundamentals, so they get a home that fits both their lifestyle and their budget.” Crafting quality across building sectors Lagan Construction apprentice, Jake Luthi was recently recognised at the 2025 Apprenticeship Awards, finishing third overall in the combined Central and Southern region. T T Virginia Wright “Jake’s success is down to how deeply he understands building.” In addition to residential projects, Lagan Construction has partnered with Retaining Canterbury on commercial builds such as Torpedo7 at Tower Junction and Action Watersports in Yaldhurst, demonstrating their versatility and commitment to quality across sectors. Training the next generation of builders is also a point of pride for Matt. One of Lagan Construction’s current apprentices, Jake Luthi, has building in his blood, thanks to growing up with his father in construction. Jake had spent university holidays working with Matt while studying landscape architecture, before eventually making the decision to swap books for a tool belt. That decision has paid off. Jake was recently recognised at the 2025 Apprenticeship Awards, finishing third overall in the combined Central and Southern region, and effectively taking top place within the Central region. “Jake’s success is down to how deeply he understands building,” Matt says. “He’s always thinking a few steps ahead. He knows what has to be done now to make sure everything works later.” As Lagan Construction puts the finishing touches on their next spec home, they continue to build not just homes, but a strong reputation grounded in quality, honesty and hands-on expertise. • All residential, light commercial drainage • Septic tank systems • Alterations • Excavations • Free quotes P: 027 437 2468 E: office@dynamicdrainage.co.nz W: www.dynamicdrainage.co.nz A: 762 Newtons Road RD5 Rolleston 7675 KAIAPOI'S LOCAL BUILDING SUPPLY STORE Right products, right advice.
